Maino ft. T-Pain - All the Above
New joint from Maino, produced by Just Blaze...kinda reminds me of T.I.'s Whatever You Like...
How can you slap? LMAO
Someone told me to watch this video. It's a clip from an Indian show called Dadagiri that's a lot like Fear Factor. Unlike Joe Rogan, the female host of this show makes an effort to insult and degrade the contestants...sometimes that backfires I guess...

Travis Barker
I recently saw the snare drum solo video on a friend's facebook posting and felt I had to jack it. Travis Barker is nuts, his snare drum solo is nothing short of Drum Line, and his Crank That remix was the only good song Soulja Boy's ever had. I remember watching the crank that video a year ago and thinking this dude is insane!! No wonder hes so skinny.. he must burn so many calories by rockin out that hard.
Anyways.. good thing he survived his plane crash!!!!!!! Enjoy.

Ill Doctrine on Fox News
I've posted stuff from illdoctrine before whenever I see a good post on his site. This time its not a new post, it's an oldy but a goody from his website archives. In this video Jay Smooth (aka Illdoctrine) parodies Nas with a rap about Bill O'Reilly. For any educated person that hates Fox News, you'll definitely appreciate this.
Made You Watch
Now let me distort your perspective with my invective
Then pretend I'm objective
Y'all appointed me to serve injustice
kick like a steel toe y'all know it's Bill-O
My tactics are trifling, when I attack for the right wing
Run up from the back push the knife in
Up in my No Spin Zone i rock your bells like a ringtone
Call you prehistoric like Fllintstones
This ain't journalism, this is fox news
You need a plan for some slander, i got you
Propaganda I spit like *hock poo*
And that stan named Olbermann's getting got too
Plus I know you've seen colbert jackin my swagger
but now I'm back in the lab and the fact of the matter is
The O'Reilly Factor is fatter, the facts don't matter
If i lack raw data i just pack more chatter
And when you see me debating the screaming and hating
Is only succeeding in making all of my ratings get fatter
he's lying!
Ha, made you watch
In my game you're a pawn when I'm on Fox
Getting big cuz I mix all your minds up
Where my don's at? Where my neocons at?

Ryan Leslie - How It Was Supposed to Be (video 2)
R-Les debuted the second version (of 3) of the video for his song How It Was Supposed To Be. This version is kind of...cheesy. It doesn't really seem to match the song at all.

Cherchez La Sample
There's never been any shortage of samples in hip hop but every once and a while I'm surprised by the producers music knowledge. One of the more noticeable times was when Kanye sampled Kid Charlemagne for the song Champion (you'll recognize the sample immediately). This isn't the first time Steely Dan has been sampled. Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz only hit, Deja Vu, samples the bass line off Steely Dan's Black Cow. Of course Steely Dan was a big group in the 70s, it's still surprising to here kids from the Bronx sampling music other than Sly and the Family Stone. I think everyone bugged out when they heard Roberta Flack's Gone Away after bumpin TI's What You Know.
I remember when I was younger, listening to Ghostface's Cherchez La Ghost, and thinking, where did they come up with this! Well, I found out, it is originally by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, titled Cherchez La Femme. I guess this is just another sign that you can find good music in every dark corner of a used vinyl shop. Either way, I'm gonna be reviving the Supreme Clientele album on my Ipod.
Cherchez la femme is French for "look for the woman"

Kurupt - It's Over
I had to bring this song back. One of Kurupt's... not-so-shining moments in hip-hop. Definitely a corny hook pop song w/ his ex-fiance Natina Reed (the "Left Eye" of the RnB group Blaque). Anyways, for some stupid reason I used to love this jam.. maybe it was Natina's wardrobe, I dunno.. either way it brings back high school memories everytime I hear it.
Lebron vs GQ
Some of the GQ staff challenged LeBron James to a game of basketball, at the time and place of his choosing...he accepted.
Slim - Eyecandy
Slim from the former group 112 drops a new single, Eyecandy. This is definitely a song for the clubs...in a subtle way, I think it sorta sounds a bit like Justin Timberlake's Cry Me a River. Maybe it's just me though...Slim's album dropped back in November...guess I missed that one.

Joy Leslie - I Know What You Like!
So a few days ago I posted a video of Ryan Leslie making a new song at Chung King studios. The video featured him rapping to an inspired, upbeat track with a girl singing the hook. I randomly came across this mp3 today and at first glance, I thought that Joy Leslie was Ryan's wife or something. Turns out she's actually his sister lol. I don't think they would've liked it if I got that twisted face-to-face with them. Well anyways, here is the full song. Joy is planning on putting out an album by the end of 2009, but doesn't plan on pursuing a career in music after that because she'd like to go in another direction. Her website can be found here.
100k to live on an island?! Sign me up!

From the National Post:
"The Australian state of Queensland has launched a global search for candidates for "the best job in the world" -- earning $150,000A ($122,000) for lazing around Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, pictured. In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, soak up the sun, snorkel the reef, "maybe clean the pool" and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates. The winner must be an excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English. "They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said Paul Lucas, the acting state Premier. Anyone interested should go to islandreefjob.com."

WTF?!

And as for Pharrell? Kid went to work this year. N.E.R.D.'s 3rd album and world tour, designing furniture, clothes (BBC and Ice Cream) and jewellery (Louis Vuitton) and producing all of Common's Universal Mind Control and some of the Teriyaki Boyz' Serious Japanese with Chad.
Hip-Hop 101: Jurassic 5
Jurassic 5 was one of the illest hip-hop groups I've ever heard and one the best true hip-hop groups EVER. Their combination of witty lyrics, smooth flow and old school beats make them something special. If you don't know who they are, here's a quick bio:
"Jurassic 5 is an American alternative hip hop group formed in 1993 by rappers Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir aka Soup, Mark 7even, and turntable maestros DJ Nu-Mark and DJ Cut Chemist, who came together from two separate crews, the Rebels of rhythm and Unity Committee.
In 1998, J5 released the Jurassic 5 LP whose tracks hearkened back to the old school attitude of New York's Native Tongues Posse, which included De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest. The song "Concrete Schoolyard," and the album provided the troupe with a Top 40 single when it reached number 35 in November 1998.
In 1999, Jurassic 5 signed with Interscope Records, who re-released their previous album. This was followed by their second album (their first on a major label), Quality Control. The singled which the album was named after was the first song I ever heard from them and is still one of my favourite J5 tracks.
In 2003, they released their third album, Power In Numbers, which was followed by touring with the newly-revived Lollapalooza festival in summer 2003. This album in included the songs like Thin Line featuring Nelly Furtado and What's Golden (one of my favourites). Jurassic 5 toured without Cut Chemist, who left the group to pursue a solo career.
The remaining 5 members recorded and released their fourth album Feedback in 2006 with Work It Out feat. Dave Matthews Band being the lead single.
And that brings us to 2009. Where is J5 now? Well, they actually split up in 2007 due to undisclosed reasons...
By the way, J5's last album Feedback was totally under-rated! Go get it!

The Contender (music)
2 clips for ya. The first is the Menahan Street Band performing the song The Contender live. These guys are probably best known for their song Make the Road by Walking whose hook was sampled for Hov's Roc Boys.
And here we have a Philly MC by the name of Zilla Rocca adding his vocals on top of the song. His flow fits perfectly to the laid back feel of the track and is definitely worth a listen. Enjoy.

He's back at it again!

"I’ve watched labels and artists take advantage of the blueprint that I laid out in 2005 on ns4life.com and I’m happy to see that some have enjoyed incredible success with that model. Somehow, no-one’s been able to do it like we do it at NextSelection…you know, daily video updates from the artist. I stress DAILY, VIDEO, and ARTIST. That’s why I’m back to do it the way it’s supposed to be done."
To kick things off, he's posted a new video for a song called I Know What You Like. This song is incredible!

Alligator Boots Snippet
A short clip from Kanye West's puppet show, Alligator Boots. I wonder what the rest of the episode is like...
Classic Material: Talib Kweli - Get By
One of the first Kweli songs I ever heard. Produced by Kanye West.
Teriyaki Boyz ft. Pharrell & Chris Brown - Work That mp3
By the way...for anyone who didn't see the Cavs-Celtics game all I have to say is wtf is up with the Celtics...they've lost the last 6 of 8. I'm a LeBron fan anyways, but seriously, not very impressed with the defending NBA champions.

Killer Mike shows you how to open a record
Before the days of Napster and iTunes, this is what everyone did to get their new music. I still get excited when I open a new album these days, but a little bit of the charm has worn off now...mainly because I've probably listened to the whole album via the Internet already. Oh well.

Exile at it again...
Exile flips Q-Tip's Let's Ride (produced by J Dilla) on his MPC. This guy never ceases to impress me.
Rihanna ft. Chris Brown - Bad Girl
Rihanna and Chris Brown get busy to this Polow Da Don beat. The track is supposedly off the soundtrack to Confessions of a Shopaholic. The movie stars Isla Fisher, who played the psycho red-head in The Wedding Crashers.
Ghetto Concept - Canada's Best Gangster Rappers
I gotta post these guys up. I grew up on ghetto concept, these Toronto rappers held it down during the 90s. If you didn't know they were from Canada, you'd swear the videos were filmed in the Bronx. Anyways... enjoy.. the first video is EZ on Tha Motion (their first single) and the second is (my favourite) Krazy World.

The Snuggie...lol
Quite possibly one of the stupidest products i've ever seen on tv. Looks like it could be used as a ceremonial gown too...
Teriyaki Boyz ft. Pharrell & Chris Brown - Work That (video)
I know I'm hella late with this...off their next album, Serious Japanese. I wonder how much Chris Brown got paid for his 15 second verse?

Re-up: Making of Late Registration
For anyone that hasn't seen it yet, here is a glimpse at the making of Kanye West's sophomore album, Late Registration (one of my favourite albums ever).
